Mutant Renegade Records
Purpose: Archive of the Dayton Indie label Mutant Renegade Records
Year Created: 2015 (Latest Version)
Description: Mutant Renegade Records was a record label and music distribution company I started in 1989 and ran until 1996 to support local Dayton area bands. It started as an outgrowth of a compilation cassette I put together of several Dayton area bands, including my band The Oxymorons!, in late 1989.
Over the course of the next seven years I released a total of ten releases including one CD, four 7″s and five cassettes. A majority of these releases featured my band, but the rest were bands that I found interesting in the area who needed help with releasing an album, promotion and distribution. The Oxymorons CD was the first independently released CD in the Dayton area and helped to move things forward in the area music scene, selling over 7,000 copies. The most successful release on Mutant Renegade Records was The Oxymorons 7″ St. Jude which sold over 12,000 copies and gained heavy college radio airplay throughout the US, Canada and Europe.
