Mutant Renegade Zine

Purpose: Archived Digital Version of Print Zine from Dayton
Year Created: 2000 (Archived) – First version 1998
Description: Mutant Renegade Zine was the outgrowth of a pint zine (independently published informal magazine) which I was publisher / writer / editor for from 1990-2000. We launched the zine online in 1998 and tried to load up as much of the content that we still had from the early print only versions. I folded the zine in late 2000 and have not updated any content on the site since 7/7/2000 to let it remain as a historical archive.

The same basic concept was relaunched as a web only music review zine as The ChickenFish Speaks in 2002 and remained until 2009 and was relaunched in 2015.

At its height Mutant Renegade Zine was a 64 page publication on news print with a two color glossy cover with a print run of 10,000 copies per issue. Each issue had a central theme and featured four primary writers and up to ten guest authors. Another major feature were the reviews, which while not exclusively music near the end accounted for 90% of all the reviews. In our final year, 2000, we received over 2,000 CD’s for review from a wide variety of artists indie to major label.
